Middle Fork Feather
In my opinion, the Middle Fork of the Feather River is the crown jewel of float fishing. With numerous put-ins and take-outs, river access is straightforward and allows us to tailor each trip to conditions and client goals. We offer both full-day and half-day float trips full days typically spend 6–8 hours on the water, while half days run about 4–5 hours, depending on flows. We float the Middle Fork through the winter, spring, and into early summer, usually wrapping up around mid-June as conditions change.
Truckee Nevada side
As the Truckee River flows east out of the Sierra, it transitions from classic mountain trout water into a dynamic stretch as it winds through Reno, creating a truly unique float-fishing experience. This section of river blends in to a urban-influenced mix of high desert fishery.
We offer both half-day and full-day float trips on the Nevada side of the Truckee depending on conditions and water time. Most floats cover approximately 4.5 to 5 miles of river. Full-day trips typically spend 6–8 hours on the water, allowing time to fish prime water thoroughly, while half-day trips run about 4–5 hours. Flow rates dictate the pace of each trip, ensuring safe travel, productive fishing, and a relaxed day on the river.
Truckee River California side
Truckee River, boat access is limited, making float fishing more challenging and less common than in Nevada. Due to fewer put ins and take outs, opportunities to float this section are restricted. However, we do offer a select float through the canyon stretch, which provides a more intimate and technical experience on the river.
This trip is best suited as a half day float rather than a full day, allowing us to safely navigate the canyon while focusing on fishing productive water and enjoying this section of the Truckee.
